Sapura Energy Berhad has won contracts supporting offshore construction, subsea installations and drilling in the Middle East and southeast Asia
These have a combined value of RM1.85Bn (US$456M), providing a boost to the company’s 2021-22 orderbook. The Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Malaysian contracts were booked under Sapura’s engineering and construction (E&C) and drilling divisions, and include purchase orders from Saudi Aramco under a long-term agreement supporting projects on oil and gas fields in the Middle East Gulf.
Saudi Aramco contracted Sapura Fabrication and Sapura Saudi Arabia Co for engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation and installation work on three offshore fields: to install new wellhead platform jackets for the Abu Safah field, which lies in both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia sectors, and on the Ribyan and Zuluf fields. These wellhead platforms are expected to be commissioned during 2022.
Sapura Energy president and group chief executive Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin welcomed the purchase order. “This is a significant win for Sapura Energy, proving our technical capabilities,” he said. “It also strengthens our strategy to grow the business and expand our presence in the Middle East,” said Mr Shamsuddin.
In Thailand, Sapura Energy gained contracts to install wellhead platforms and pipelines and remove wellhead platforms from Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production (CTEP), Chevron Offshore (Thailand) and Chevron Pattani. Offshore work for these contracts is expected to be completed during Q4 2022.
In a substantial move for offshore decommissioning in southeast Asia, Sapura Energy completed the first rigs-to-reef project in Thailand in Q1 2021, relocating idle platforms in CTEP’s asset retirement offshore removal campaign to create artificial reefs for marine life habitats.
In Malaysia, Sapura Offshore won a contract to transport and install offshore pipelines under the Pan Malaysia Transportation and Installation of Offshore Facilities umbrella contract, by PTTEP Sarawak Oil. Sapura is responsible for transporting and installing around 10 km of subsea pipeline, offshore Sarawak, to be completed by May 2021.
Sapura also gained a sub-contract to transport and install a wellhead platform jacket and topside at the Kasawari gas development project, by Heerema Marine Contractors. This is expected to be completed by Q2 2021.
Sapura Geosciences received a letter of award from Petronas Carigali to provide marine site investigation and pipeline route survey services at the Bestari field, offshore Sabah, with work expected to be carried out in 2022.
Sapura Baker Hughes picked up a contract from Malaysia LNG for comprehensive maintenance of Baker Hughes-supplied turbomachinery equipment under a long-term service agreement. The contract is for 9.5 years, effective from February 2021.
In Brunei, Sapura Drilling secured a contract extension for its semi-submersible tender assisted drilling rig, Sapura Pelaut, from long-time partner Brunei Shell Petroleum.
This extension covers a firm period of 145 days commencing April 2021.
