Swedish project development company Landinfra Energy has confirmed it is investigating conditions for the establishment of offshore wind in the Swedish economic zone and country’s territorial waters
The company has identified nine areas off the Swedish coast and plans to investigate conditions at each of them.
The areas in question are Falkenberg/Halmstad, Baltic Edge, Öland/Hoburg (three subareas), Slite, Oxelösund, Hudiksvall and Sundsvall.
Landinfra chief executive Marcus Landelin said the areas in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone and territorial waters “are fully in line with the company’s strategy and will be a good complement to our portfolio of renewable energy production projects around Sweden.”
All of the locations are within the areas that the Swedish Energy Agency, together with nine other authorities, have proposed as suitable for wind power.
Landinfra said it chose the areas based on criteria such as community interests, proximity to a grid connection, nearby demand for electricity, reasonable investment costs, and the possibility of a relatively low production cost. The areas in question have the potential for installed capacity of between 5 GW and 8 GW.
In addition to the nine areas, Landinfra has defined several alternative locations for offshore wind in the Swedish economic zone and Swedish territorial waters.
