Bristol Community College’s National Offshore Wind Institute (NOWI) has entered into a partnership with offshore training specialist Maersk Training
Bristol Community College president Laura Douglas said, “Bristol is proud to partner with Maersk Training, whose expertise and experience will elevate the college’s leadership in training the workforce needed for the emerging offshore wind industry.
“This partnership will connect the college’s faculty and staff with the expertise of industry experts throughout Maersk Training’s global network and will strengthen the development of employment opportunities for Bristol students in the offshore wind supply chain.”
The college said collaboration with Maersk Training is the next step in securing its role as a provider of basic safety training and basic technical training programmes certified by the Global Wind Organization (GWO).
Maersk Training chief executive Johan Uggla said, “Having a local workforce that has a strong level of competence, technical skills and safety, that drives operational and safety performance, is essential for the industry and the success of offshore wind projects in the US.” Mr Uggla said the collaboration would also support job creation.
NOWI’s basic safety training modules include first aid, manual handling, fire awareness, working at height and sea survival; the basic technical training courses focus on hydraulics, mechanical and electrical concepts for offshore wind.
Maersk Training will establish skills development training programmes at NOWI and develop new GWO courses to be offered by Bristol Community College.
