The first of 77 V164-9.5 MW turbines from MHI Vestas has been installed on the Borssele III/IV offshore wind project in the Dutch sector of the North Sea
The turbine was installed by the project team using Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus.
The 731.5-MW project is being developed by the Blauwwind consortium, which consists of Partners Group, Shell, Eneco, Diamand Generating Europe and Van Oord.
MHI Vestas chief operations officer Flemming Ougaard said, “First turbine installation at Borssele III/IV is a milestone for the MHI Vestas team, who are working hard to deliver offshore wind projects across Europe in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Blauwwind consortium project director Roeland Borsboom said, “Following completion of foundation installation in April, turbine installation is the next phase in this exciting project.
“Commissioning of the first string of turbines is expected in the course of Q3 2020. That is when we expect to start production of power for our customers.”
Total expected energy production from the Borssele III/IV wind project is 3,000 GWh per year.
