The expansion of Chinese offshore wind installation capacity continues apace, with two newbuilds being built for China Three Gorges Corporation (CTGC)
The latest contracts for vessels were placed at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co and China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) in Jiangsu, China.
Another vessel, a turbine installation vessel for CTGC, is understood to have been launched in April 2021. The vessel, San Xia Neng Yuan 001, was built at Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry and is due to be delivered in H2 2021.
Propulsion system specialist Wärtsilä said it is to supply steerable thrusters and tunnel thrusters for the latest installation vessels built for state-owned CTGC.
Wärtsilä said CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding is building a 2,000-tonne turbine installation vessel, and CMHI is building a 3,000-tonne heavy lift vessel.
Each of the vessels will have a thruster configuration consisting of WST-32FP main propulsion units and relevant WTT transverse thruster sizes. They will comply with applicable environmental regulations with the use of environmentally acceptable lubricants.
