A keel-laying ceremony for offshore installation vessel Green Jade took place on 5 March 2021 at CSBC’s shipyard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Green Jade is owned by CDWE, a joint venture between CSBC, the largest shipbuilder in Taiwan and DEME Offshore.
The vessel is the first of its type to be built in Taiwan. The dynamic positioning class DP3 heavy-lift and installation vessel has a 4,000-tonne capacity crane and will be able to transport next-generation, multi-megawatt turbines, jackets and components in a single shipment.
With the vessel being built in Kaohsiung, operating under the Taiwanese flag and eventually being crewed by Taiwanese nationals, CDWE is attempting to maximise local content.
Set to enter service in 2022, Green Jade will be deployed on the Hai Long and Zhong Neng offshore windfarms. The vessel already has a three-year backlog of projects.
DEME Offshore managing director Hugo Bouvy said the vessel highlights DEME’s commitment to the Taiwanese offshore wind market. The ship is DEME Group’s largest single overseas investment.
