Purus Marine, which describes itself as ‘a maritime holding company that owns environmentally-advanced vessels and infrastructure equipment’ has agreed to acquire ‘a large service operation vessel (SOV)’
The company said the SOV is currently under construction and will be delivered into a multi-year time charter with a leading European renewable energy company, beginning in early 2022.
“The SOV is a hybrid-electric vessel that offers best-in-class environmental performance and is zero-emissions ready with future battery/charging and fuel cell options,” the company said.
Purus Marine said a leading Norwegian ship manager and owner will provide technical and commercial services for the SOV. A Purus Marine spokesperson was approached with questions about the SOV and the company declined to provide further information.
In a statement, Purus Marine chief executive Julian Proctor said, “This environmentally advanced SOV is well aligned with our mission to decarbonise the maritime industry, not only in achieving reduced carbon emissions today, but also with the potential to operate with zero emissions in the future.”
Purus Marine senior advisor and board member Svein Engh said, “We are delighted to have an agreement to acquire our first SOV, marking the first step in achieving Purus Marine’s goal of owning a world-leading fleet of SOVs servicing the offshore wind industry.
“This is only the start as Purus Marine expects to make additional acquisitions in offshore wind, as well as other maritime sectors, over the next year.”
The company was formed earlier in 2021 by EnTrust Global, an asset management firm. In an earlier statement, Purus Marine said Mr Proctor brings more than 24 years of experience in the maritime industry.
The statement said Purus Marine’s fleet “will reduce the carbon emissions and ocean pollution of its customers by using low-to-zero carbon fuel technologies, energy-saving devices and design and operational efficiencies.”
In an April 2021 statement, Purus Marine said it had partnered with Dutch shipbuilding group Damen Shipyards Group to finance green shipping projects. The partnership, named DP Lease, aims to provide long-term lease financing solutions. The partnership will own environmentally friendly Damen-built vessels which will then be leased to the shipbuilder’s clients.
