Aegean Shipping Management has entered into an agreement with China’s Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard to construct two high-specification Aframax tankers
Aegean Shipping Management principal George Melissanidis signed the final contract and officially placed the order for the newbuild vessels during a remote ceremony held in Aegean Shipping Management’s and Cosco’s offices respectively.
The two 114,000-dwt tankers will be the ninth and tenth consecutive orders Aegean has placed with Cosco Group in the last four years.
Aegean said that as part of its commitment to the protection of the environment and strengthening the ’green fleet’ perspective governing its operations, the vessels will be built according to the latest IMO Tier III environmental requirements and certified with the highest ECO-friendly class notations.
A statement from the company said “As of today, the Aegean Shipping fleet consists of newbuild vessels only. This order heralds a new era of growth for our company, who remain committed to providing first-class and environmentally friendly services to our charterers.”
Both vessels will be classed and supervised during construction by Bureau Veritas and will be ready for delivery in Q4 2022.
In other Greek tanker ordering news in Asia, Pantheon Tankers has placed an order worth US$111M with Samung Heavy Industries for two 157,000-dwt Suezmaxes with both vessels set for delivery in Q2 2022.
