China’s first 10-MW offshore wind turbine, developed by Dongfang Electric and China Three Gorges Group, was successfully connected to the grid earlier this month
The 10-MW turbine was selected for the Xinghua Bay Phase 2 windfarm offshore Fujian province.
Dongfang Electric said, “Successful grid connection signifies that China possesses the independent R&D, manufacturing and installation capability required for 10-MW-class offshore wind turbines.”
The company said the entry into service of the turbine was “a historic leap” for the Chinese offshore wind energy sector.
The typhoon-proof turbine was primarily developed for Class I wind zones in Fujian, Guangdong and other sea areas. It has a hub height of 115 m and a rotor diameter of 185 m. Once fully verified, the 10-MW unit is due to enter into mass production.
The 10-MW turbine was delivered to the windfarm in June 2020.
