BOW Terminal in the Netherlands has started work under a contract to temporarily store 61 transition pieces (TPs) for the Noirmoutier offshore windfarm in France
Smulders has partnered with BOW Terminal Vlissingen for the project.
The Noirmoutier windfarm is slated for commissioning in 2025. With a total capacity of 496 MW it is being built off the coast of Vendée, 12 km from the island of Yeu and 16 km from Noirmoutier. The windfarm will have 61 Siemens Gamesa 8-MW wind turbines.
The first TPs have already been unloaded at the terminal in Vlissingen.
Smulders is fabricating the transition pieces in Hoboken, Belgium. Each is 30 m high with a diameter of 6 m and weighs more than 360 tonnes.
BOW Terminal is responsible for unloading the TPs, storing them, and transferring them to the vessel UHL Force, which will transport them to France.
