Demand for seismic surveys is improving as oil and gas companies and state energy groups increase investments in offshore exploration and production (E&P)
Opportunities are emerging as cutting-edge technology is introduced into offshore surveys and energy companies seek to monitor production from existing fields.
With this in mind, survey vessel owner PGS has formed a strategic collaboration with inApril to provide ocean bottom node (OBN) and hybrid-towed streamer services. This is a one-year partnership for multi-client and contracted surveys using the latest technologies to discover and monitor hydrocarbons.
“The strategic collaboration with inApril expands our service offering and capabilities in the contract and multi-client acquisition segments, and further enhances our position in a recovering seismic market,” said PGS president and chief executive Rune Olav Pedersen.
Chief executive of inApril, Anne Camerer, welcomed the opportunity to work with PGS. “We believe we can mutually benefit from the strategic collaboration to serve the global market for OBN seismic surveys in an increasing number of contexts including exploration, reservoir monitoring and carbon capture and storage,” she said.
In an improving market, TGS secured funding for a series of multi-client surveys in southeast Asia, which it expects to commence in December 2023.
This programme involves acquiring 2D and 3D seismic data over six months, and reprocessing 6,600 km of legacy 2D seismic data and 300,000 km2 of 2D-cubed processing.
These projects complement TGS’s existing library of seismic data across India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Timor-Leste, encompassing 18,450 km of 2D data, 70,237 km2 of 3D data, and 1,940,030 km2 of 2D-cubed data.
“This programme demonstrates our commitment to investing in energy data in southeast Asia,” said TGS chief executive Kristian Johansen.
“The energy demand is increasing in line with the region’s rapid economic growth, driven by growing populations and rising incomes. This growth brings with it a number of challenges as governments and exploration and production companies strive to supply this energy affordably and sustainably.”
Seabird Exploration said it had 90% utilisation of its fleet and revenues of US$9.7M in Q2 2023. It owns two vessels – Fulmar Explorer source vessel and 3D survey ship Eagle Explorer.
Fulmar Explorer was working in the US side of the Gulf of Mexico Q2 2023. In July, Seabird won a contract for the charter of Fulmar Explorer for two years in the western hemisphere.
