Ever Alot, the world’s biggest container ship at over 24,000 TEU, will fly the Panama flag after being added to the Panama Ship Registry
Ever Alot is one of Taiwanese ocean line Evergreen Marine’s A-Class vessels, the largest box ships in the world. Panama has 18 of the world’s 20 largest container ships in terms of TEU, a figure that includes five Evergreen ships and Ever Ace, which previously held the crown of largest container ship.
Built by China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co, Ever Alot is 400-m long and 62-m wide. The ship incorporates a gas treatment system for complying with pollutant gas emissions limits, energy saving equipment and a bulbless bow design to reduce fuel consumption.
Other 23,992-TEU capacity ships Ever Act, Ever Aim and Ever Alp are registered in Panama. The Panama Registry is administered through the Panama Maritime Authority and the flag state offers clients benefits such as an agreement between Panama and Chinese Governments on maritime transport, which expedites passage when entering Chinese ports.
The Panama Register proposes an incentive programme to promote a greener industry and a younger world fleet. In addition to its consular network of 53 offices, where shipping services are provided such as ship registration, mortgage registration and seafarer’s certifications, it has four auxiliary registry offices dedicated to documenting seafarers, and 14 international technical offices strategically located around the world to support the more than 350,000 seafarers who sail aboard the 8,500 vessels registered under the Panama flag.
