The stories in the latest Passenger Ship Interiors & Refurbishment Review newsletter highlight the growing theme of cruise operators adding new design details and features in their latest ships – even if the ship is not a new class
Celebrity Cruises’ fourth and final Edge-class ship, Celebrity Ascent, for example, retains many of the interior features seen in the previous Edge-class ships, but the vessel offers a new take on these familiar themes.
New York chef Daniel Boulud, whose speciality restaurant Le Voyage first featured on Celebrity Beyond, is continuing his partnership with Celebrity with his second venue on Celebrity Ascent, but the new venue will sport noticable changes. The space is inspired by the chef’s own travels and has a signature chandelier, banquet-style seating and features gold tones. In another venue, the ship’s Cosmopolitan dining room has been redesigned, its design language based around the culture of the famous French wine region of Champagne, with a new layout and seating.
Celebrity Ascent will also offer the widest range of staterooms in the cruise line’s fleet, with new layouts and palettes. Some highlights include redesigned balcony cabins for solo travellers and two-bedroom suites with private hot tubs.
Meanwhile, American Cruise Lines has taken delivery of American Eagle – the first of the river cruise operator’s Coastal Cats vessel series. The ship, like the cruise line’s other recent deliveries, shows a sophisticated, cosmopolitan design approach that sets it apart from the line’s older, more traditional ships.
With sustainability in design coming increasingly to the fore, our feature on Havila Voyages’ new vessels shows how the ships’ eco-friendly technology and the company’s focus on creating business opportunities for local communities is underpinned by an environmentally friendly interiors emphasis and the use of local materials.
