GAC’s marine logistics service has created an alliance with a maritime e-commerce developer to enable last-mile delivery services for a digital marketplace
Tug and offshore support vessel operator GAC has formed a partnership with Moscord to enable vessel spares to be supplied faster by combining e-commerce with ship supply services.
This partnership will deliver services and supplies purchased from numerous manufacturers and suppliers on Moscord.com, which offers more than 200,000 products to the shipping industry.
GML will use its expertise and the group’s global logistics and port agency network to ensure safe and efficient delivery of ship spares worldwide.
Orders placed via the Moscord platform are received by GAC Singapore – the designated control and co-ordination hub – which arranges for the spare parts or supplies to be cleared at the destination port before delivery to their final destination.
Moscord founder and chief executive Freddy Ingemann thinks this platform “can revolutionise the ship supply segment” by “delivering huge benefits to both buyers and sellers”.
To enable this, Moscord needed a logistics group to facilitate global ship supplies.
“We are committed to building the leanest, most efficient and reliable purchase and fulfilment cycle, from initial customer engagement through to final delivery at any port location worldwide,” said Mr Ingemann.
GAC Asia Pacific and Indian sub-continent region’s group vice president, Lars Bergström said this arrangement will ensure “orders are delivered safely to the vessels wherever and whenever they are needed”.
GAC provides global logistics and ship agency services. It offers hull cleaning, port support and marine transportation, rig moves and transit services.
It operates a fleet of offshore support vessels, tugs and barges, located in the Middle East, the Caspian, India and the UK. These include anchor handlers, platform supply vessels, oceangoing tugs, crew boats, utility vessels and workboats.
GAC’s barge transportation can be used to carry materials, coated pipes, jackets, topsides and other materials for offshore construction, or for lighterage and general cargo.
Digitalisation and e-commerce are enabling shipowners to optimise their vessel operations - this will be discussed at Riviera Maritime Media’s Optimised Ship Forum in London on 10 December
