Libra Group subsidiary Lomar Shipping has promoted its technical director Stylianos Papageorgiou to head up a new venture to collaborate with technology start-ups
Lomarlabs will join forces with ambitious entrepreneurs to catalyse the deployment of solutions addressing some of the shipping industry’s biggest challenges, including achieving net-zero emissions.
It will add value to start-ups and established technology companies by making the fleet of Lomar ships available as floating laboratories, testing and validating business model assumptions and providing the catalytic funding these companies may need to test their solutions or overcome marketing hurdles.
Mr Papageorgiou joined Lomar as technical director in 2015 and, as managing director, will use his experience in managing supply, technology, safety, maintenance and compliance of shipping assets to enable lomarlabs to assist technical start-ups.
Lomar has promoted Marius Bujor to the position of technical director. He will join the company’s Bremen office in Germany, after serving the shipowner for eight years.
He joined in 2014 as a technical superintendent, became a fleet manager in 2018 and was promoted to deputy technical director in Q4 2022, as Lomar prepared for the launch of lomarlabs.
“In planning for the development of lomarlabs we have concurrently been managing the transition of leadership within our technical department,” said Lomar chief executive Nicholas Georgiou.
Mr Bujor will lead teams in Bremen, London (UK), Singapore and China across Lomar’s fleet management, crewing, procurement, HSEQ, drydockings and newbuilding programmes.
