John McDonald has been elected as the new chairman and chief executive of ABS, replacing Christopher Wiernicki who is retiring
John McDonald has been elected as the new chairman and chief executive of US-headquartered ABS by the board of directors. He will take over these roles at the classification society from Christopher Wiernicki who is retiring on 1 January 2026.
Mr McDonald joined ABS in 1996 as a surveyor and then served in various frontline roles around the world. He led the former ABS divisions in Europe and the Pacific, and held operational leadership positions, including as senior vice president of survey operations in the Western Hemisphere and of global business development. He was previously promoted to president and chief operating officer at ABS.
“I will lead this remarkable organisation with deep respect for the legacy of technical excellence and steadfast commitment to safety that has guided ABS for more than 160 years,” said Mr McDonald.
