Ardmore Shipping has reshuffled its leadership team, promoting key executives and adding new talent as it prepares for chief executive Anthony Gurnee’s upcoming retirement
Ardmore Shipping Corp has announced a series of leadership changes and updates to its commercial organisation, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s ongoing evolution.
This development follows the earlier announcement of the retirement of founder and chief executive Anthony Gurnee, who is set to step down in September 2024.
In the latest update, Ardmore has promoted Robert Gaina to the position of senior vice president, commercial, effective 16 September.
Mr Gaina will take over from Gernot Ruppelt, who will assume the role of chief executive.
Mr Gaina, who joined Ardmore in 2015 after an extensive seagoing career, has held multiple commercial roles within the company, culminating in his promotion to director, commercial operations, in 2017.
His extensive experience, particularly in managing oil and chemical tankers for major charterers such as BP, Cargill and Vitol, positions him well to lead Ardmore’s commercial strategy moving forward, the company said.
In tandem with Mr Gaina’s promotion, Jordan Hunt has been appointed director, commercial operations. Mr Hunt, who joined Ardmore from Thome Ship Management in 2016, has a background in nautical science and hands-on experience on chemical and product tankers.
Ardmore has also strengthened its team with two new hires.
Gregory Grieco has joined the Ardmore chartering team in Houston, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his previous roles in operations management at Torm and AET, as well as his efforts to optimise fleet performance at Oceaneering.
Meanwhile, Emediong Alexandra Udongwo has joined the commercial operations team in Cork. With an academic background in international economics and business, complemented by her experience in claims and demurrage with Shell and ExxonMobil, Ms Udongwo adds valuable expertise to the team.
These leadership changes are occurring within the broader context of Ardmore’s leadership transition, which will culminate at the company’s quarterly board meeting on 16 September.
Mr Ruppelt, the incoming chief executive, has expressed confidence in the new leadership team’s ability to drive Ardmore’s continued success, highlighting the importance of maintaining the company’s position in the highly competitive tanker shipping sector.
