Norwegian offshore support vessel owner Eidesvik Offshore has made key appointments to its management team, naming Arve Nilsen as its new chief operating officer and Ellen Sofie Ottesen as its new chief technical officer
With more than 30 years’ industry and technology experience, Mr Nilsen has been with Eidesvik for 13 years, most recently as technical manager with responsibility for technology, purchasing and IT. Starting as chief operating officer at the end of June, he will have overall responsibility for the operations of Eidesvik’s fleet of advanced vessels.
“Arve has the extensive maritime competence and management experience needed to [ensure] our operations continue with the same high quality that we are renowned for. I am also confident he will be a force in further developing Eidesvik’s vessel operations," said Eidesvik Offshore chief executive and president Gitte Gard Talmo.
Ms Ottesen, most recently Eidesvik’s director of sustainability, has 25 years’ experience in the maritime industry. During her 15 years with Eidesvik, she has held various management positions such as fleet manager and head of Eidesvik’s newbuilding department. She will take up her new role with immediate effect.
The chief technical officer role is a new position within the company, created to support the company’s strategy of positioning itself at the front end of the development of zero-emissions shipping solutions. Eidesvik has installed battery hybrid solutions on 11 out of 12 vessels in operation, and through its ShipFC project, the company aims to make its Viking Energy the world’s first offshore supply vessel to operate on ammonia as fuel.
