The next chair has been announced for the International Association of Classification Societies safety panel to reduce maritime risk over the next three years
Korean Register’s general manager for its convention and legislation service team, Jungkun Lee, will lead the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) safety panel from 1 January 2026 until 31 December 2028.
His appointment was confirmed at the 91st IACS council meeting, which was held in Beijing, China, in June.
This is one of seven IACS technical panels and plays an important role in developing, revising and interpreting international maritime safety regulations.
IACS safety panel works closely with IMO and other major regulatory bodies, such as the European Union, to addresses critical safety issues under IMO conventions.
Mr Lee has represented Korean Register on the safety panel since 2016 and provided practical experience with major safety instruments, including the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. He graduated from Korea Maritime & Ocean University and joined Korean Register in 2000.
