The International Foundation for Aids to Navigation (IFAN) has appointed former BP Shipping global head Guy Mason as its new chairman
He will replace outgoing chairman Alan Marsh who steps down after three years in the post.
Mr Mason was appointed to the position at a recent IFAN board meeting held in Bahrain. He joined the IFAN board in March 2022 having retired from BP at the end of 2020 as senior vice president and global head of shipping.
Mr Mason said there are several issues on his immediate list of priorities. These included identifying projects IFAN can support financially to improve standards of navigational safety at sea.
Also, supporting the valuable safe navigation service IFAN subsidiary, the Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS), supplies to shipowners and operators in the Middle East Gulf.
IFAN and Mr Marsh have been previously praised for encouraging shipowners to pay MENAS navigational light dues to maintain safer routes for vessels and crew.
