Taylor Smith Group has promoted Willy van Niekerk to general manager of Taylor Smith Shipyard, the oldest shiprepair yard on Mauritius
In this position, he will be responsible for further developing the shipyard’s docking, salvage and (afloat) repair services, while tapping into new markets.
Taylor Smith Shipyard already repairs tugs, fishing vessels, workboats, offshore support vessels, private yachts and container ships sailing in the Indian Ocean.
It has expanded into civil construction services, carrying out steel works for land projects in addition to its marine portfolio.
Mr van Niekerk has served as assistant general manager at Taylor Smith Shipyard since 2022 and has sailed on container ships and bulk carriers.
Since moving onshore, he has worked as a technical superintendent, newbuild superintendent, ship manager and drydock manager, working in South Africa, Germany and South Korea.
