A past chairman of the European Tugowners Association will represent Italian tug owners for three years at a time of change in the southern European towage market
Italian Tugboat Owners Association, Assorimorchiatori, has welcomed Italia MedTug chief executive Alberto Dellepiane as its president for the next three years where he will represent owners and operators in the southern Europe nation.
He brings experience of being chairman of the European Tugowners Association (ETA) for the past two years and chief executive of the Italian division of Mediterranean Shipping Co’s MedTug.
Mr Dellepiane’s appointment comes at a time of considerable change in the southern European towage market as owners are under pressure to reduce emissions in ports, and handle ultra-large container ships and LNG carriers in constrained harbours.
At the ETA, Svitzer chief commercial officer Mattias Hellström was elected as chairman for the next two years, taking over the role from Mr Dellepiane.
Supporting Mr Hellström in this role is newly appointed deputy chairman Holger Schwesig, who is managing director of Fairplay Towage.
At Assorimorchiatori, other members of the committee reconfirmed for the next three years are:
Cafimar Group chief executive Alessandro Russo as vice president; Fratelli Neri’s Corrado Neri as president of the Ports Commission; Scafi Group board director Paolo Visco as president of the Industrial Relations Commission; Ocean president Alberto Cattaruzza as treasurer; Impresa Fratelli Barretta chief financial officer Paola Barretta and MedTug’s ConTug general manager Pio Pugliese.
The association also welcomed the request for membership from Rimorchiatori Sardi, which provides towage services in all the ports of Sardinia.
