SBM Offshore is promoting Øivind Tangen to chief operating officer at a time when demand is rising for offshore renewable energy solutions
Mr Tangen has worked for the company, which is a leader in leasing floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, for 19 years. He will become a member of its management board in April.
He is currently a managing director, responsible for SBM Offshore’s lease and operate segment, which includes its growing FPSO fleet.
SBM Offshore intends to transfer current chief operating officer Philippe Barril to the new position of chief transition officer. The creation of this new role at the management board level confirms the company’s ambition to play a leading role in the energy transition.
These proposed appointments will be submitted for approval at the general meeting, set to be held on 6 April 2022.
At that time, chief governance and compliance officer Erik Lagendijk intends to step down from the management board.
After the general meeting, chief financial officer Douglas Wood will also assume responsibility for communications and investor relations.
Mr Tangen holds a master of science in naval architecture from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and ENSTA, Paris. He also has a master of management and economics of energy and the environment from ENI Corporate University.
