SmartSea has strengthened its senior management team to help port and offshore vessel owners embrace the opportunities offered by digitalisation
Kris Vedat, former head of technology and logistics at P&O Maritime Logistics, has joined SmartSea as its chief technology officer as it expands its use of the SITA digitalisation platform into the maritime, ports and offshore industries.
Mr Vedat has more than two decades of diverse work experience in the fields of technology and logistics. At P&O Maritime Logistics, he was responsible for overseeing technology and logistics operations, driving technological advancements and ensuring smooth IT operations within the organisation.
SmartSea uses SITA, which was developed initially for the aviation industry, to provide a hub for maritime technology solutions, including modules for crew management, planned maintenance and insurance, operations and inspections.
“We have to learn from the advances made in digitalisation within the aviation industry by SITA,” said Mr Vedat.
“Everyone in maritime should be sharing data collectively, which should become a reality soon as new regulations lead to a shift towards data standardisation, as seen in other transport industries. This creates a prime opportunity to help the industry revolutionise how companies operate in future.”
