SSY said it has agreed to buy Grieg Shipbrokers, folding it into SSY in January 2026; the parties declined to disclose the price
London-based shipbrokers Simpson Spence Young (SSY) said it has agreed terms to acquire Scandinavian brokerage Grieg Shipbrokers, with the business due to become part of SSY from January 2026.
SSY described itself as “the world’s largest independent shipbroker” in its announcement.
Grieg Shipbrokers operates globally and maintains offices in Oslo, Bergen and London, and describes itself as a 50-person firm. It has operated as a Scandinavian shipbroking business since its inception in 1884 and has covered activities including LPG, maritime finance, offshore, sale and purchase, aquaculture, tankers and dry bulk.
Grieg Shipbrokers current chief executive officer Morten Müller will continue to manage and grow the business following the acquisition.
SSY managing partner Stanko Jekov framed the transaction as a shared-services and continuity move, “Both firms are committed to providing the best possible service to their respective client base,” he said.
SSY linked the acquisition to its wider aim of becoming a Top 3 player across major shipbroking sectors, and said Grieg Shipbrokers will be incorporated into SSY’s infrastructure – the Grieg brand will not be retained as part of the deal.
Grieg Shipbrokers chair of the board Markus C Grieg said the family had owned the business since its founding and credited staff, saying, “We are truly grateful for their efforts and commitment, and we wish them all the best with their new owners.”
The parties did not disclose the consideration, with SSY stating, “The parties have agreed to not comment on the price of the acquisition.”
