The UK Hydrographic Office has confirmed its interim chief executive will take up the position permanently as it helps the shipping industry adapt to a new data framework for navigation
Vanessa Blake has been appointed chief executive at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) after acting as interim chief executive since May 2024. She will lead the ship navigation solutions centre as the wider maritime industry sails through evolving challenges.
Under Ms Blake’s leadership, the UKHO will help the industry to adapt to the emerging S-100 data framework and the future of hydrography and maritime navigation.
The UKHO plays a proactive role in the hydrographic community, supporting the safety of life at sea on behalf of the UK government.
This office works with partners to continue developing its Admiralty products and services, particularly electronic navigational charts, which are used on around 90% of the global commercial shipping fleet.
“We will continue to support safe, secure and thriving oceans, while playing our critical role in delivering the UK’s defence plans,” said Ms Blake.
