A New York-headquartered maritime software provider has strengthened its knowledge in dry bulk shipping by hiring a new board director
OrbitMI has appointed Egil Husby to its board of directors to expand its expertise in providing software to merchant ships, particularly those transporting dry bulk.
He joined the New York-headquartered software after working for 17 years at dry bulk shipping company, Western Bulk, where he served as chief strategy and transformation officer.
Mr Husby also held roles as chief risk officer, general manager of Asia operations and corporate risk manager at Western Bulk, contributing to the company’s growth and sustainability across multiple market cycles.
“Egil brings deep expertise in freight trading along with valuable insights into the industry’s complexities and opportunities," said OrbitMI chief executive Ali Riaz.
“His combination of analytical skills, operational experience and strategic thinking makes him a strong addition to our team as we work to turn maritime data into smarter decisions.”
Mr Husby began his career at Norsk Hydro working on pricing models, cross-border trading and corporate risk frameworks in the energy sector.
He said OrbitMI “aims to integrate with and simplify day-to-day workflows rather than adding another stand-alone system to a system stack that is already too large.”
