P&O Maritime Logistics, a sponsor of May’s International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards (ITS) 2024, is at the forefront of providing essential services to the shipping and port industries through its cutting-edge fleet of tugboats
Head of projects and business development Matthew Callan shared the company’s perspective on the latest trends in tugboat ownership and what it will offer at the ITS Convention 2024 in Dubai this May.
In 2023, P&O Maritime Logistics had significant success in its port services division, with a fleet renewal programme and renewing a crucial contract with the Maputo Port Development Company in Mozambique. The company also saw an increase in ship calls requiring towage, mooring and pilotage services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Several newbuilds were added to its modern and powerful fleet, including azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs and a Multi Cat, reflecting the company’s commitment to meeting its customers’ long-term requirements.
Looking ahead to 2024, P&O Maritime Logistics is focused on decarbonisation and plans to invest in technologies to lower emissions, such as biofuels, IMO Tier III engines with SCR, and monitoring systems for optimisation.
The global tug industry is being shaped by decarbonisation efforts, digitisation and the development of smaller, more agile newbuilds. P&O Maritime Logistics is keenly aware of these trends and aims to stay ahead of the curve by leading the conversation on these key topics at ITS.
As an active member of the Emirates Shipping Association, P&O Maritime Logistics sees events such as ITS as an opportunity to contribute to industry decisions and policies while bringing a global perspective and best practice to the table.
During the conference, P&O Maritime Logistics plans to engage with attendees and showcase its new offerings, with chief executive Martin Helweg featuring in a panel discussion on the competitive landscape in towage markets.
Summarising, Mr Callan says that in sponsoring ITS 2024, P&O Maritime Logistics is demonstrating its commitment to safety, sustainability and innovation in the tugboat industry, and looks forward to collaborating with industry peers and taking full advantage of exciting opportunities to learn, network and do business at the event.
P&O Maritime Logistics chief executive Martin Helweg will participate in a panel discussion of Day 1 of the ITS Convention, themed Bracing for impact: The new competitive landscape with discussions examining how consolidation among mega-operators is reshaping towage markets globally and the strategies smaller independents can adopt to remain competitive.
The 27th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards will be held in association with Caterpillar in Dubai, UAE, 21-23 May 2024. Use this link for more details of this industry event and the associated social and networking opportunities
