Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard has begun constructing a new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat for Jiangsu Bohang Shipping Co, just 10 days after the builder delivered the most powerful tug on China’s inland rivers
A steel cutting ceremony was held 10 February 2022 at the Zhenjiang Shipyard in Jiangsu Province for this harbour tug, which will have a total power capacity of 5,360 kW.
Just before halting work for the Chinese New Year, the shipyard delivered a powerful ASD tug to Zhenjiang Port Group Co. Zhen Gang Tuo 6001 has total installed power of 4,475 kW, which the Zhenjiang Shipyard said was the most powerful harbour tugboat to operate in Chinese inland waterways, to date.
All this power gives the ASD tug a bollard pull astern of 74 tonnes and forward bollard pull of 66 tonnes.
With an overall length of 42 m, beam of 11 m and hull depth of 5 m, it has a speed of 14 knots and enough fuel to sail for 700 nautical miles without refuelling.
More tug deliveries are expected during the next few months.
On 28 January, Zhenjiang Shipyard launched an ASD tugboat with 5,220 kW of installed power for Jiangsu Wisdom Shipping. Zhi Tai Tuo 1 will be outfitted for the owner in the next few months.
On 18 January, the shipyard launched two ASD tugs it built for Fuzhou Port. Fu Gang Tuo 19 and Fu Gang Tuo 21 will each have total power of 3,840 kW when they enter service in the next few months.
That followed the launch on 14 January of tugboat Tai Xing Xiao Tuo 1, built for Taixing Runtai Port Co.
The keel for another 4,475 kW powered tugboat was laid on 12 January. Zhenjiang Shipyard is constructing this vessel for Shantou Port.
Also in January, the shipyard started cutting steel on an ASD tug for Nantong Yangkou Port Tugboat Co and one for Hainan Hongzhou Shipping Co.
