Acta Marine has upgraded its multicat Coastal Chariot and mobilised it to a new project in North Africa. The accommodation area on the 37m vessel was expanded to accommodate up to six clients or contractors. Additional equipment was also installed to support a cable lay project.
Acta Marine said this means Coastal Chariot is suitable for a wide range of contracts, including specialised towage, dredging support, offshore oil and gas, offshore renewables and telecommunications work.
Coastal Chariot was mobilised to Egypt in early April this year. Prior to that it was prepared for a fibre optic cable lay project. The 2014-built multicat can operate in shallow water with a draught of just 1.85m and can operate in dynamic positioning DP1 mode.
It has two hydraulic deck cranes, of 310 tonnes and 170 tonnes, an 80 tonnes winch and 185m² of free deck space. The propulsion system includes twin fixed pitch propellers, two azimuthing bow thrusters and one fixed azimuth thruster. Coastal Chariot’s power output is 2,895 kW and it has a bollard pull of 36 tonnes.
Meanwhile in China, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard has delivered an azimuth stern drive tugboat with power output of 2,942 kW to a domestic vessel operator.
