Alisha Fredriksson, co-founder and chief executive of Seabound, has been named the winner of the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2023 International Tanker Shipping & Trade Conference in Athens
The award recognises an outstanding professional who has demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, leadership and creativity in the tanker shipping industry.
Ms Fredriksson was inspired to tackle climate change after a 2018 UN report warned of catastrophic global warming within decades. She co-founded Seabound in 2021 to develop carbon capture technology for ships, enabling the maritime industry to reduce emissions and meet sustainability goals.
Under Ms Fredriksson’s leadership, Seabound has secured six letters of intent from major shipowners to purchase its novel carbon capture devices. This past summer, the company installed and tested its first pilot system on board a container ship with Lomar Shipping. By making carbon capture modular and cost-effective, Seabound aims to decarbonise more than 10,000 ships by 2040.
"Alisha’s vision and drive in founding Seabound embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship," says Riviera Maritime Media executive editor and head of business relations Edwin Lampert. "We are delighted to present Alisha with this year’s Entrepreneur of the Year award."
Ms Fredriksson will be formally honoured at a ceremony on 7 November during the International Tanker Shipping & Trade Conference in Athens.
The International Tanker Shipping & Trade Awards are presented annually to honour outstanding achievements and contributions to the tanker shipping and trade industry.
