MingYang Smart Energy has secured a contract from Renexia to supply the wind turbines for what could become the first offshore wind project in Mediterranean
The offshore wind project is located in the Apulia region of Italy, offshore Taranto.
MingYang is to deliver 10 MySE3.0-135 wind turbines along with a 25-year operations and maintenance package.
Senvion turbines were originally selected for the project, which were then replaced with another turbine model from OEM, Envision. The contract was subsequently retendered, leading to the award to MingYang.
“This order underlines the hybrid-drive turbine’s high power generation efficiency,” said the Chinese company, “enabling the customer to develop an offshore windfarm with low wind speeds, ensuring maximum value for Renexia’s business case.”
The project is an important milestone for MingYang, its first in the European offshore wind market. The contract will be executed by Ming Yang’s European business and engineering centre in Hamburg, which was founded in May 2020.
Deliveries are expected to begin later in 2021. The project is due to be commissioned by the end of the year.
