A plan to build a new monopile manufacturing facility at Port of Esbjerg in Denmark has been unveiled by Baltic Structures Company (BSC)
BSC, which is led by chief executive Heiko Mützelburg, who has a track record with monopile manufacturers Sif and EEW Special Pipe Constructions, said the production facility and the monopiles produced there “will close a significant gap in the supply chain.”
The company said the new plant, which will be capable of fabricating XXL monopiles, “will be equipped with cutting-edge technology from leading European equipment manufacturers and innovative manufacturing processes, setting new industry standards.”
A statement issued by BSC, which is based in Rostock in Germany, did not reveal details about how it planned to fund construction of the facility or any partners involved in the project.
The company said the 100,000-m3 foundation fabrication site at Esbjerg will be able to produce up to 200 XXL monopiles per year. “The focus of this plant is on structures with dimensions of up to 15 m diameter, up to 130 m in length and single unit weights of up to 4,000 tonnes,” said the company, which also wants to produce transition pieces, pin piles and components for jackets and floating foundations.
BSC said its plan is supported by Port of Esbjerg’s management. It said it expects production from the new factory to start by the end of 2026.
