Evergreen Marine Corp has turned to maritime software provider Navis to improve loading and stowage on its growing container ship fleet
This Taiwan-headquartered group will use Navis’ StowMan control centre, distributed services and Vessel Pool to optimise stowage operations on some of the world’s largest container carriers, after signing a multi-year subscription agreement to benefit from the full suite of Navis’ carrier and vessel solutions.
This comes as Evergreen has started operating ultra-large container ships in the 23,000-24,000 TEU range.
Evergreen welcomed 24,000-TEU container ship Ever Alot, touted as the world’s largest of its kind, from CSSC-owned Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding early 2022. Ever Alot is part of a series of 14 container ships being built in South Korea and China.
Navis’ solutions include stowage planning tools, loading and lashing calculations for efficient cargo capacity management.
Evergreen Marine deputy senior vice-president of operations Captain Y S Hwang said Navis’ solutions were required due to rising challenges in container shipping and trade as vessels sizes increase.
“With the ever-increasing complexity in the seaborne trade and the accelerated needs for larger volumes of cargo on ships, it is of utmost importance for us to find a balance between capacity maximisation and safe vessel operations in daily and in extraordinary situations,” he said.
“With the Navis Stowage Planning solution we are able to save time and costs by providing a fully integrated tool for more efficient and flexible operations to our central planner teams and their global collaboration.”
StowMan is an integrated stowage system for container shipping. It uses the full scope of the stability and stress calculations, slot definitions and advanced lashing calculations of the onboard Navis loading computer.
Distributed services and the control centre provide a scalable framework for StowMan applications for connected client servers, while maintaining offline planning capabilities. Vessel Pool helps planners to work with up-to-date ship profiles.
