Saipem will assist the energy producers with two ultra-deepwater projects, one in Guyana and the other in Brazil, having won contracts with a combined value of US$1.9Bn
For ExxonMobil, Saipem will install subsea facilities on the proposed Whiptail oilfield development in the Stabroek block. Saipem’s scope of work includes the design, fabrication and installation of subsea structures, risers, flowlines and umbilicals for a large subsea production network in 2,000 m of water, set to be connected to a new floating production storage and offloading facility.
Saipem will perform operations using its subsea construction and pipelay vessels FDS2, Constellation, and Castorone, and will deploy a fabrication site at the Port of Georgetown, providing more local content and investment in the country.
This contract is subject to the necessary government approvals, project sanction by ExxonMobil Guyana and its Stabroek block partners and an authorisation to proceed with the final phase. Saipem will start with detailed engineering, and procurement ready for the ultra-deepwater project.
In Brazil, Equinor intends to develop the Raia gas and condensate project in the Campos Basin, 200 km offshore the state of Rio de Janeiro.
It has contracted Saipem for the offshore transport and installation of a subsea gas export pipeline and associated equipment in water depths of 2,900 m, and the horizontal drilling activities for the shore approach.
Saipem will deploy its pipelaying vessel Castorone for the installation works, assisting one of the most important gas development projects in Brazil, which could represent 15% of the total domestic demand of the country.
The extracted gas will be transported through pipelines installed by Saipem for 200 km from the field to a gas receiving facility to be built in Cabiúnas, in the city of Macaé in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
“The two awards confirm, once again, the competitiveness of Saipem’s offer in bidding processes and the ability to build long-term partnerships based on consistent performances,” said Milan, Italy-headquartered Saipem. “Moreover, they further strengthen the visibility on Saipem’s key assets utilisation throughout 2027.”
