Misje Rederi celebrated the launch of the fifth 5,000-dwt dry bulk carrier from a series of 10 vessels on order at Colombo Dockyard, Sri Lanka
Established in 1956 by Kåre Misje, Misje Rederi currently operates 12 dry bulk carriers in the 4,000 to 5,000-dwt range.
The company has 10 new DNV-classed, ECO-type 5,300-dwt dry bulk carriers on order at the Colombo Dockyard in Sri Lanka, of which three, Misje Viola, Misje Vita, and Misje Verde are now operating in the fleet.
The fifth vessel in the series, Misje Rose, was launched in March 2024, as was the keel laying of the seventh vessel in the series.
The vessels are equipped with a hybrid energy storage system, charging facilities, and combine conventional and eco-technologies for reduced environmental impact through electrification.
Norwegian Greentech has been contracted to supply the ballast water treatment systems to two of the newbuildings. Under the contract, Norwegian Greentech will supply its compact, energy efficient UV- and filter-based ballast water treatment system (BWTS).
“Our chemical-free BWTS has a highly compact design and is very energy efficient. It has become the favoured BWTS for shipowners that are dedicated to reducing their environmental footprint as well as their operating expenditure,” said Norwegian Greentech senior vice president commercial Børge Gjelseth.
The BWTS will be equipped with functionalities for remote access and assistance, which is important for cargo vessels that aim to spend as little time in port as possible.
Norwegian Greentech, a subsidiary of HAV Group, will manufacture the BWTS systems at its headquarters in Fosnavåg, Norway, and ship them to Colombo Dockyard. It has not disclosed the value of the contract.
