Frontline Management chief technical officer and Flex LNG chairman Lars Pedersen explains how the company has partnered with DNV’s Veracity to embrace data-driven solutions as a cornerstone of its strategy for fleet optimisation
By harnessing the power of automation and advanced data analytics, Frontline Management has enhanced safety measures, promoted sustainability and streamlined operational efficiency.
On the safety requirement, Mr Pedersen said, “Owning and operating one of the largest tanker fleets in the industry, safety is a top priority for Frontline. While we are proud of maintaining a consistently low injury rate at Frontline, this is a constant journey that we are committed to upholding and improving on.”
One of the key achievements of Frontline is developing a strong data architecture. This architecture has enabled it to automate manual tasks and calculations, eliminating human error and saving valuable time.
“This gives you the ability to work smarter, rather than getting bogged down with manual entry and data analysis. It has been a real game-changer for Frontline,” he said.
Integrated with state-of-the-art technologies, Frontline’s fleet is now equipped to handle the challenges of the rapidly evolving maritime landscape. The integration of high-frequency performance data, digital twins and engaging services from renowned industry leaders such as DNV and Veracity has further bolstered Frontline’s position.
Mr Pedersen noted, “Since 2020, DNV and Veracity have assisted us in digitalising the performance data of our fleet to drive decision-making.”
These collaborations have enabled Frontline to prepare for the upcoming EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), ensuring compliance and efficient management of environmental regulations.
Frontline’s success in leveraging the vast amount of data generated by the maritime industry can be attributed to its commitment to data quality, clear targets and easy access. By setting rigorous standards for data accuracy and reliability, Frontline ensures informed decisions are made based on trustworthy information and that its data management practices facilitate easy access to critical insights, empowering stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
With data-driven solutions at the forefront of its operations, Frontline Management is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the maritime industry. By making safety, sustainability and efficiency core principles of its strategy, Frontline is positioning itself as a trailblazer in the field.
Frontline sees regulation as a business opportunity to establish a competitive edge, “Frontline welcomes the upcoming EU ETS regulations and is pleased with the support Veracity provides us with to closely monitor, manage and report on our ESG-related KPIs, as well as our performance with regard to regulations. With this and our cutting-edge fuel efficiencies, we see the EU ETS as an opportunity, giving us a competitive edge in trade within, into and out of the EU.”
As the industry continues to evolve, Frontline Management remains dedicated to finding innovative ways to drive growth, while keeping its commitment to safety and environmental responsibility at the forefront.
