Maritime Craft Services (Clyde) Ltd (MCS) has again expanded its fleet of marine and offshore workboats, adding a new multi-cat vessel from Damen Shipyards
The Scottish owner took delivery of MCS Rosie 2 following a rapid contracting and commissioning schedule to expand its fleet in the Middle East.
Damen built this 27-m vessel to its Multi Cat 2712 design at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, in the Netherlands. It was handed over to MCS on 10 November at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem and is en route to Malta for a voyage to the Middle East, according to automatic identification system data.
MCS Rosie 2 can support maritime and offshore construction projects, coastal towage and anchor handling with a comprehensive equipment package including winches and two deck cranes.
It has propulsion, including two diesel engines, two azimuth thrusters and a bow thruster, generating a top speed of 10 knots and a bollard pull of up to 32 tonnes.
MCS purchased MCS Rosie 2 because it has encountered rising demand for its workboats and tugs, and their services, as offshore activity accelerates.
This vessel has its first charter booked and is now sailing to start its first assignment, expected in Malta on 12 December.
Based on the Firth of Clyde on the west coast of Scotland, MCS operates a fleet of 17 workboats and tugs, of which 13 have been built by Damen, including harbour tugs, Shoalbusters, fast crew supply vessels and now three Multi Cats.
The company’s services are in demand across northwest Europe, the Middle East and in south Asia by offshore energy contractors and dredging clients for activities including anchor handling, towing, cable laying, dive support and general support and supply services.
“As a company that is aways looking for new opportunities, we require vessels that are flexible, reliable and efficient,” said MCS director Menno Kuyt. “Not only was the delivery time exceptional, our history with Damen also gives us confidence this vessel has everything it needs to be a multi-purpose, multi-functional asset capable of taking on a wide range of projects.”
As Damen builds these workboats in series, it was able to deliver MCS Rosie 2 just six weeks after MCS placed the order.
