Technip Energies, deepC Store Ltd and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) have executed a letter of intent regarding the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and operations for the proposed floating storage and injection (FSI) carbon capture hub which is part of the CStore1 project
CStore1 project will be the first large-scale offshore multi-user hub and has a planned CO2 injection capacity of between 1.5 and 7.5 mta.
This project spans the entire carbon capture and storage value chain, capturing and liquefying CO2 from multiple industrial sources in Australia, and potentially the Asia-Pacific, and shipping that liquid CO2 to CStore1’s FSI hub located offshore Northern and Western Australia.
The liquid CO2 will be temporarily stored at the FSI hub. The CO2 will finally be injected and stored in a permanent subsurface geological formation near the FSI hub.
Technip Energies will exclusively provide FEED and EPC services for the hub using its offshore C-Hub technology. MOL will provide the pre-FEED service for CO2 shipping scope in relation to the FSI hub facility while Genesis, a Technip subsidiary, will support the delivery of the FSI hub by providing engineering of the subsea umbilicals, risers and
flowlines component of the facility, including architecture selection, flow assurance, engineering for risers and flowlines, and Christmas trees.
Technip Australia country manager Paul Browne said, “Working with our development partners deepC Store and MOL, and advisory subsidiary Genesis, we look forward to creating a cost effective and sustainable option for receiving and handling carbon in the region.”
MOL executive officer Yasuchika Noma added, “As a provider of social infrastructure service in addition to traditional shipping, MOL is honoured to have an opportunity to expand our involvement in the CStore1 project.”
CStore1 will be the first offshore floating CCS hub project in Asia Pacific and one of several such projects worldwide. Oil majors Total, Woodside and Inpex are evaluating the potential of a CCUS hub in the Bonaparte Basin, Western Australia.
