BMS Heavy Cranes in Denmark has awarded a contract to Huisman in the Netherlands for a 3,000-tonne capacity ringer crane it will use in the offshore wind industry
The crane will be set up in such a way that optimises it for use in the offshore wind industry. It will be able to lift components of 1,200-tonnes to a height of up to 225 m and heavy structures of 3,000 tonnes at reduced height. This makes it suitable for use with next-generation offshore wind turbines – on and offshore – and on floating foundations.
The contract for the fully electrically driven crane includes an option for a second unit. Delivery of the first unit is scheduled for the second half of 2023.
BMS Heavy Cranes chief executive Morten Kammer said the crane will be a major step forward for the company.
The company Mr Kammer leads specialises in erection and servicing of offshore wind turbines, co-operates with wind turbine manufacturers to provide efficient handling of turbines in ports and undertakes transport and onsite lifting assignments.
