GSG Towers in Poland – a Gdańsk Shipyard Group company – has unveiled a major investment in facilities to manufacture towers and steel structures for the offshore wind industry. The company said it had invested in machinery to bend, weld and paint wind towers and steel structures, doubling its manufacturing capacity. GSG Towers now has capacity to construct up to 300 towers of up to 8m diameter annually, and the ability to manufacture towers from 120mm thick steel sheets with a single section up to 50m in length.
“The onshore and offshore energy markets have immense growth potential and, as a result of this investment, the Gdańsk Shipyard Group will become one of the largest manufacturers of wind towers in Europe,” said Jarosław Łasiński, chief executive of SG Towers and Stocznia Gdańsk SA, noting he believes GSG Towers can become a “supplier of choice” for solutions for the offshore wind energy industry.
Gdańsk Shipyard Group currently employs approximately 1,000 people. In line with the plan to develop production capacity, the number of employees will be increased by another 300-400 employees in the next two years.
