Dubai-based offshore energy logistics provider Topaz Energy and Marine has installed real-time marine fuel management solutions on OSVs operating in West Africa and the Caspian Sea to gain precise in-transit efficiency recommendations.
Topaz Energy installed Fueltrax electronic fuel monitoring systems (EFMS) on 21 of its vessels operating in Nigeria and Azerbaijan for data storage and surveillance. Fueltrax said the EFMS delivers an electronic record of activities using automated operational and fuel data collection, coupling it with precise in-transit efficiency recommendations for vessels located anywhere in the world.
“Digitalisation offers tremendous opportunities for the maritime industry across all sectors and disciplines, and operators are now increasingly acknowledging its importance, said Topaz Energy chief operating officer Martin Helweg. “As our clients’ demands evolve and shift towards a need for a range of services and solutions, the onus of fuel monitoring will eventually fall on the vessel owners. Through the installation of Fueltrax, we, as an early adopter of this solution, are ready to face this challenge, and look forward to using Fueltrax in our attempt to reduce fuel consumption and thereby the environmental footprint of our vessels.”
Fueltrax chief executive Anthony George said, “The market recognises the need for automated digitalisation in fuel management and is accepting electronic fuel monitoring systems as the standard solution." Mr George said Fueltrax wants to support its clients who are "taking action to stay ahead of the curve.”
In line with its digitalisation efforts, Topaz Energy has also adopted Fueltrax Vision, a new onboard surveillance system which provides a remote view of onboard surveillance footage, stored in a secure database and correlated with onboard fuel activities.
Fueltrax has about 130 systems on vessels operating in Nigeria. To support its expanding business in West Africa, Fueltrax opened a new local affiliate, NCS West Africa Limited, in Victoria Island, Lagos and Onne, Port Harcourt to provide in-country support for its clients in the region. NCS West Africa will provide EFMS maintenance and calibration services for Coriolis mass flowmeters, which require periodic calibration to ensure instrument measurement is accurate and within the required limits.
