GMT - ONLINEThe Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) has signed an MoU with alternative energy specialist Cleancor Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Seacor Holdings
The MoU will see the parties collaborate on creating an LNG bunkering infrastructure to serve shipowners and operators within Port NOLA’s jurisdiction.
Cleancor will supply LNG to operators while the port will provide the Cleancor with data, logistics expertise, customer contacts, introductions and marketing support.
President and chief executive of Port NOLA and chief executive of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, Brandy Christian said “We are pleased to partner on this MoU with Cleancor to ensure we provide Port NOLA tenants and customers with the best options for the most efficient and effective operations.”
Cleancor chief executive Jeff Woods believes the MoU will help accelerate the adoption of low-carbon bunkering to help advance the uptake of such fuels.
The company will develop options for infrastructure development that integrate into Port NOLA’s long-term planning. Cleancor will also provide options for LNG bunkering that are compatible with forecasted customer demand and collaborate with Port NOLA to obtain federal, state, and other authorisations and permits needed to develop the required infrastructure and operations.
The parties will identify, attract and serve customers in Port NOLA’s jurisdiction that use LNG fuel, jointly solicit sources of grant funding to help incentivise early adopters and collaborate to share information on infrastructure necessary to support LNG bunkering.
There is also a proposed expansion of the Port NOLA complex with the addition of an international container terminal in St Bernard Parish which opens the opportunity for new businesses and industries as well as fuel source options.
“LNG paves the way of the future and provides a suitable and sustainable fuel source for the diverse cargo operations at our terminals and in our jurisdiction” added Ms Christian.
The port of Galveston has also recently entered into an MoU with Stabilis Solutions to facilitate using LNG as a marine fuel.
