Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy is to shed around 2,900 positions in its workforce in the next phase of its Mistral strategy, but anticipates growth in the offshore wind market
Jobs in Denmark (800), Germany (300), Spain (475) and the UK (50) will be affected and further reductions are planned in other countries around the world.
At the same time, the company said it is working to strengthen specific areas in leading markets to capitalise on its strong position in the offshore wind market.
Siemens Gamesa chief executive Jochen Eickholt said, “It is never easy to make such a decision, but now is the time to take decisive and necessary action to turn the company around and ensure a sustainable future.
“We need to build a stronger and more competitive Siemens Gamesa to secure our position as a key player in the green energy transition.”
The company said it will collaborate with employee representatives to minimise the impact of the changes, prioritising natural attrition and internal transfers. Negotiations will start at the beginning of October 2022.
A new operating model and organisational structure will become effective 1 January 2023. Headcount will be adjusted accordingly following negotiations with workers’ councils, no later than fiscal year 2025.
