New vessel named in Japan as fleet renewal continues
Danish tanker company Uni-Tankers has expanded its fleet with Marex Mia, following a naming ceremony in Japan in honour of USTC Group co-owner Mia Østergaard Rechnitzer.
The company said the vessel is owned by its business partner in Japan and forms part of its ongoing renewal strategy.
Ms Østergaard Rechnitzer said it was “truly special to take part in a traditional ceremony in Japan, and to name a vessel that will carry my name is a great honour.”
She added receiving the respect tied to the tradition was “something truly unique,” and referred to the strong relationship with business partners in Japan, with the naming ceremony rooted in Shintoism and intended to purify and bless the vessel.
Uni-Tankers chief executive Per Ekmann said, “We are thrilled to welcome Marex Mia to the Uni-Tankers fleet. With this addition, we reinforce our commitment to reducing our environmental impact through the renewal of our fleet with modern, energy-efficient tonnage.”
Marex Mia has a length of 130 m and a cargo capacity of 12,500 dwt, with upgrades aimed at improved energy efficiency.
The vessel was delivered by Marex Maritime, whose collaboration with Uni-Tankers began with the purchase of Jutlandia Swan and continued with the delivery of Marex Nina.
A third vessel is expected in 2027.
