The offshore installation vessel Boreas has been handed over to Van Oord by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd shipyard in China
Boreas is purpose-built to transport and install next-generation foundations and turbines for offshore windfarms.
The vessel will be the largest of its kind once operational at 175 m in length with a 155-m high boom, which can lift more than 3,000 tonnes.
The new vessel has four 126-m jack-up legs that enable it to be jacked up and work in waters up to 70 m deep.
It will be able to install turbines of up to 20 MW and is also designed to operate on methanol fuel in future.
Boreas will now be prepared to sail to the Netherlands, where final outfitting work will take place with equipment installed for storing and handling foundations.
Boreas is due to enter operation Q3 2025.
