OSJ Lifetime Achievement Award: Captain Mike Meade
M3 Marine Group founder and chief executive Captain Mike Meade won Offshore Support Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award 2022
This popular award, recognising his 44 years of service to date in the maritime and offshore industries, was presented at Riviera Maritime Media’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, Awards and Exhibition during a gala dinner in London, UK, 15 June 2022.
Capt Meade said this award, sponsored by class society DNV, was a great recognition from the offshore industry of his lifetime of service. It also recognised his leadership and ingenuity for forming the M3 Marine Group and investing during the long industry downturn in the past seven years.
There were testimonials from his close work colleagues who praised him for his passion for the industry, loyalty and aspirational work ethics.
Capt Meade founded M3 Marine Group in 2005 following a long career at sea and in top management at some of the largest offshore vessel owners. M3 Marine Group consists of M3 Marine Offshore Brokers, M3 Marine Expertise, M3 Valuations and M3 Remote Inspections and provides offshore ship broking and a comprehensive range of technical and commercial consultancy services tailored to meet the needs of the offshore marine, oil and gas industry.
DNV segment director for special ships Arnstein Eknes presented the Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 to Capt Meade.
Capt Meade started his career in 1978 with British merchant marine shipping group Oceans Fleet Ltd with a four-year apprenticeship, achieving a Class 3 deck officer certificate of competency.
In 1981, he started his long service with Swire Pacific as a junior officer and moved through the ranks and promotions to project manager and then general manager.
In 1997, Capt Meade joined Seacor Marine as general manager in the Middle East, was general manager in Asia in 2001 and became vice president in 2005.
That year, he formed M3 Marine Group as chief executive, where he continues to lead the varied group. He remains actively involved in the group’s day-to-day business and activities.
Capt Meade is a master mariner, fellow of the Nautical Institute and member of The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
He was chairman of Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) 2015-2017 and has been chairman of SSA’s Offshore Services committee and Offshore Training, Development and Education sub-committee. He was also Asia Pacific representative on the IMCA marine division management committee and is a regular presenter at Riviera Maritime Media’s annual OSJ conferences.
