Pacifico Energy has confirmed that it has been awarded a site survey licence for a 500-MW offshore wind project in Vietnam
The licence was granted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and authorises a site survey assessment for an offshore wind project in Ba Ria Vung Tau, offshore Ho Chi Minh City. The licence is one of the first to be granted to a foreign developer.
Pacifico Energy is a US-based energy infrastructure developer, owner, and operator working primarily in the Asia Pacific region, with more than 1.5 GW of projects in operation and US$5Bn of capital deployed in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
Pacifico Energy is one of only a few US energy companies to have developed commercial-scale energy projects in Vietnam, with a 40-MW solar farm in Lam Dong and a 30-MW windfarm in Vinh Long.
The company said the offshore wind project will strengthen Vietnam’s energy security and support its economic growth targets, while also promoting the shared national security interests of the US and Vietnam, aligned with the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Pacifico said it welcomes the opportunity to work closely with Vietnamese authorities and industry stakeholders to create an enabling regulatory framework that will ensure the successful development of Vietnam’s offshore wind resources.
In October 2025, Pacifico Energy Korea secured approval for an electricity business licence from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for its 420-MW Myeong Ryang offshore wind project off the coast of Jindo County, South Jeolla Province. The licence confirmed the project’s site boundaries and capacity, allowing Pacifico Energy Korea to commence the key permitting process. This milestone is also expected to accelerate Pacifico Energy Korea’s development of the 3.2-GW Jindo offshore wind project cluster.
The Jindo offshore wind cluster consists of three projects: Myeong Ryang Offshore Wind (420 MW), Manho Offshore Wind (990 MW), and Jindo Baram Offshore Wind (1.8 GW). Together, they represent the largest offshore wind project cluster in a single area being pursued by a single developer in the Asia Pacific region. The Myeong Ryang project is the first phase of this cluster.
