The installation vessel Seajacks Scylla has completed work on the largest offshore wind project in the Irish Sea, four weeks ahead of schedule.
Scylla installed 87 turbines on the Walney Extension windfarm off the Cumbrian coast, having begun work on the project, which once operational will also be the world’s largest offshore windfarm, on 1 August 2017.
Installation of 40 MHI Vestas 8 MW turbines and 47 Siemens Gamesa 7 MW turbines was completed on 24 April 2018 some four weeks ahead of schedule.
The Walney Extension, a shared ownership project between renewable energy provider Ørsted and Danish pension funds PFA and PKA, is approximately 19 km from Walney Island off the coast of Cumbria and once operational will have a total capacity of 659 MW.
