Siemens Gamesa and Siemens Energy to integrate electrolysis into offshore turbine

The companies intend to develop a full-scale offshore demonstrator by 2025/26.

Siemens Gamesa chief executive Andreas Nauen said the plan would combine the company’s 30 years of experience in offshore wind with Siemens Energy’s expertise in electrolysis.

Siemens Energy chief executive Christian Bruch said, “Together with Siemens Gamesa, we are in a unique position to develop this game-changing solution.”

Over the next five years, Siemens Gamesa plans to invest €80M (US$98M) in the initiative. Siemens Energy is planning to invest €40M.

Siemens Gamesa said it will adapt its SG14-222 DD offshore wind turbine to integrate an electrolysis system into it.

Siemens Energy will develop an electrolysis system to meet the needs of the offshore environment. It will be installed in the wind turbine’s tower.
